The Independence gold mine is located outside of Sun Valley and down Independence Gulch. The mine consists of numerous mining roads, tailing piles, metal and wood artifacts. There is a entrance to a mine shaft but it was still buried in snow when I visited. There is also an old trailed with some shelves. It’s be shot at a lot.
Directions
This mine can be accessed by driving down to the end of the road in Independence Gulch within the Elkhorn neighborhood. It’s about a 1.5 mile walk to mine site. It’s very easy to find. Reaching the top of the tailing piles are a different story as they are well above the canyon floor.
